the De Young Museum
Last weekend Kelly and I celebrated our second anniversary. I can’t believe it’s been only two years ’cause it feels like we’ve been together forever.
So, for our anniversary, we decided to take a trip to San Francisco to go to the De Young museum. We took Bart into town and stopped first in Chinatown. We walked a bit too much toward Nob Hill but we eventually got there, and got a bit of exercise out of it too. We ate at some random Dim Sum place which was mobbed and so getting english translations was a bit difficult. We got by with pointing and gesturing. An hour, and $12.98 later, we left that place and headed to the park.

Energized Kelly, ready for the museum.
The brand new De Young Museum, which opened back up in October was deceptively small looking from the outside. But when you get inside, it doesn’t take long to realize that this place is HUGE. BTW, if you go, bring your student IDs for practically a 50% discount, and if you took Muni there, show your transfer for an extra $2 off. So, Kelly and I saw the Hatshepsut exhibit first. Hatshepsut was one of the few female Egyptian kings who rules somewhere around the 18th-20th dynasty (~1450BC). I took one picture of a relief of her, and was then told by the security guard that photography was not permitted. She followed me around for a few minutes making sure I kept to the rules. I sure am a troublemaker. Here’s the bootleg picture.

Hatshepsut. What a hottie!
So, you gotta give credit to those damned security guards for intimidating us so much that we don’t realize that flash photography is allowed in certain parts of the museum. By the time I wised up to this, I had missed a good portion of the museum. So, here are the few shots I did take.

Even in early antiquity, they still knew how to raise da’ roof!

Masks of Africa

Some kinda paradise mural.

My second favorite, the native american
“angel of death”,… and the American Flag.

Cool, 3D-looking goose.
Prete a manger
And finally… at the far end of the museum, they have a 9 story observation tower which is pretty bad-ass…

The Golden Gate, over the hill.

The gardens to the east of the museum
By this time, we were so pooped that we just headed back home. Here’s the final shot of Kelly, drained of energy and waiting for the BART train.
