Chicken Experiment Take Two! or Our Immortal Chickens!
As you may have read in Jeff’s last post, we got new chickens. They are a different breed of chicken than the last group, they are Ameraucanas (our last ones were Rhode Island Reds). To most people, a chicken is a chicken, and that’s how Jeff and I feel as well. What is interesting about our new breed of chickens though, is that they will lay blue eggs. They’ll be perfect for Easter; we won’t even have to dye them
Here is a picture of the chicks from last Friday:

And here is a picture of them today:

In light of the tragic fate of our previous chickens; who you might remember were named Betsy, Petunia and Delilah; I was very hesitant to name these new chicks. I didn’t want to get too attached. But, after a week, I have decided that they should be named anyway. I wanted to give them strong names in hopes that it would help protect them from predators (namely Sophie!). In my search I came across the name Ambrosia which means “immortal” in both Greek and Latin. Immortality would be a very good trait for these chickens to have, so I decided to look up names from other languages that also meant immortal. And so we have Ambrosia (Greek/Latin), Amrita (Sanskrit) and Kokumo (African), our “immortal” chickens! Don’t worry though, we know they aren’t really immortal and will not be making the same mistake with Sophie again.
