Silly Ducks & Chickens!
So, our chickens and ducks have been giving us a pretty consistent supply of eggs (usually 1 chicken egg and 1 duck egg per day) for the past couple of months. In the last few weeks though, I’ve been having trouble finding the duck eggs; and for the past week I haven’t been able to find the chicken eggs either!
Then this morning I went out to feed them all and Yacko, our female duck, was no where to be found. I searched for about 10 minutes all over the yard and even looked over our fences before I went inside and told Jeff. He came out and searched all over the yard and finally found her tucked under a rosemary bush sitting on a nest. GREAT!!! we both thought - the last thing we need is more ducks!!!
Luckily she left the nest later, which I took to mean that she wasn’t too serious about taking care of her eggs, and when I went to go check it out I saw this:

There were 22 eggs in total!!, 14 duck and 8 chicken. Since we can’t tell how old each individual egg is, and one of them is at least 14 days old, we had to throw them all away. Oh well, now we have one more place in our yard to check for eggs each morning. Hopefully they’ll continue to lay them here for a while so we won’t have to search for another new nest!
