Welcome Baby Renee
It was Monday morning, just after midnight, when Kelly woke me up. She had been having stronger contractions all weekend, but nothing too pronounced. Well, it had gotten serious pretty fast in the last few hours and when Kelly nudged me awake, I went into frantic mode. We made our way to the hospital and Kelly got all checked in. We started in triage where the on-duty midwife took a look at Kelly and her contractions and confirmed that we were going to have a baby that day.
They moved us to a real deliver room and then we waited. Around 7am, the contractions started to get really bad but Kelly’s water hadn’t broken yet. By 8:30, our midwife Holly had shown up and she said that if the water didn’t break soon, we could break it and that would speed things up a bit. We agreed and when the water broke, we immediately noticed a difference. Within the hour, Kelly delivered.
The labor was almost completely complication-free. Kelly went all-natural and as a result, screamed like I’ve never heard her scream before. At around 9:15, our room was flooded with hospital staff and at 9:25, our baby girl was born. Kelly held her briefly and I cut the cord.
Then she was swooped away to be cleaned, weighed and measured while Mommy was being cleaned and sewn back up.
Since both mom and baby were healthy, we were discharged the next day and came home to start our new lives together. We’ve mostly adjusted so far, but we know that it’s going to be a long, tiresome and fruitful road ahead.
